Avatar: The Exhibition, a museum show of artifacts, props and costumes from the all-time biggest blockbuster film, will go on display at Seattle's Science Fiction Museum from June 4, 2011 through September 3, 2012. The show will then travel to other arts and cultural institutions in the US and around the world.
Organized by Experience Music Project|Science Fiction Museum (EMP|SFM) in association with director James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment, the show will bring the imaginative world of Pandora to life off the screen.
According to director James Cameron: "Fans will be able to see in-person the workmanship behind the film, whether it's how scenes are captured; or how a Na'vi costume was built first as a real world garment then produced digitally," he stated in a press release.
An actual Armored Mobility Platform suit used in the combat scenes and the original, hand-made models of the Na'vi characters and their wardrobes will be on-hand. Visitors will experience interactive installations that demonstrate motion capture, virtual and 3-D technologies in film.
EMP|SFM is in a building designed by architect Frank O. Gehry to resemble Jimi Hendrix's smashed guitar. The sculptural structure, located in Seattle Center, next to the famous Space Needle, houses a music museum as well the science fiction museum.
