On Friday the charity Multiple Sclerosis Trust will be selling over 250 pieces of original artwork for £45 each online - but the names of the artists who made them won't be revealed until after the sale.

Hundreds of professional artists, some of whom are quite notable names, have made contributions to the auction.

All of the artworks are 12cm x 12cm in size and there is a large variety of creative styles and techniques, from oils, watercolours, photography and landscapes to still-lifes and cartoons.

Artist Brian Palmer, who has donated work, says: "The Secret Art Show gives [people] an opportunity to acquire some real art at a bargain price, with the chance it may be by someone famous".

The Secret Art Show is the brainchild of Jill Holt, who co-founded the MS Trust in 1993 after her mother and aunt were diagnosed with the condition. The first Secret Art Show took place in York in November 2010 and raised £20,000.

From 4 May art lovers will be able to purchase works online at www.mstrust.org.uk/secretartshow
