A collection celebrating the work of avant-garde spectacular John Cage goes on display on Saturday.

An American composer, philosopher, poet and artist, the late Cage made his mark on the 20th century by pushing the boundaries of acceptability, experimenting with random, scattered compositions.

Splashes of colour and abstract shapes dominate Cage's pieces, which continue to sell at auctions worldwide. Following a tour around the country, the Hayward Project Space presents an abridged version of the exhibition, featuring Cage's works on paper.

This display gives visitors a unique insight into Cage's visual art career, from his collaborations with Robert Rauschenberg to the influences he had on the Fluxus artists of the 1960s and '70s.

John Cage: Every Day is a Good Day is on display at the Hayward Project Space, Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London, from 12 August until 18 September. Admission is free. To find out more, visit www.southbankcentre.co.uk
