The Creed of Martin's silence

The Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed has used both sound and movement in his art (as you read this, athletes are still dashing past visitors in Tate Britain for Work No.850) so it was only a matter of time before he set up his own band. Playing at this weekend's Gold festival in London's Shoreditch, the three-piece will perform a 20-minute "minimalist punk" set.

"I've been playing for quite a few years but the band doesn't have a name. I don't want to distinguish it from my other work," says Creed. "Whether it's a song or sculpture, I'm just trying to fill in the time in a way that's exciting." The band do small gigs about once a month (Creed sings and plays guitar) and, like his art, the songs are always numbered.
