The results of a competition to find the best press photography of 2010 were announced this week.

Now in it's sixth year, the Press Photographer's Year demonstrates that even in an age of rolling television news, internet and satellite communication, the importance of reportage photography is still keenly held.

Fifteen winners across multiple categories were chosen from 8,000 submissions by more than 300 photographers based in over twenty countries.

Charles McQuillan's photo of a child with a doll of herself known as a 'reborn' (see right) was chosen as the overall winner and also won first prize in the features category.

An exhibition of 136 entries including the prize-winning pictures is at the National Theatre in London until the 4 September.
