Beyond the Sea in Padstow is both an art gallery and a purveyor of very fine furniture, some of which looks like it was salvaged from a shipwreck – in the best possible way. We particularly like their Old Wooden Union Jack Chest. £295, beyondthesea.co.uk

The Art of India features hundreds of drawings from the 18th to 20th century, by the scientists and artists who revolutionised our understanding of the biodiversity of the Indian subcontinent – many of the images are of unseen relics from the Natural History Museum's cavernous library, which go on display later this month. £12.99, franceslincoln.co.uk

Knight rider

New in the 'ideas so smashingly silly we can't believe someone didn't think of it before' category, is their cycle helmet cover (see gallery above) from the Wallace Collection's gift shop. Purple rain

We've had the first snow but winter has some way to go yet. Having perused what the high street and online stores have in the way of that rarest of things, the stylish gentleman's raincoat, we have concluded that you could do no better than their natty purple number by Folk (see gallery above). Bar Boulud's 'Dinner with Dean' supper club in Knightsbridge offers well-heeled diners the chance to "travel off the menu" once a month. Prestat make chocolates by Royal appointment and we have no doubt Her Maj would love to get her hands on their London Gin Truffles. Yes, you can taste the gin and they are wrapped in 'fizzy' white chocolate, which is presumably meant to replicate the sensation of drinking tonic.
