Londoners share their inspirations

Be it a fantastic exhibition, outstanding piece of theatre or a profound comment from a friend, we all draw inspiration from different sources.

And we're never far from creative inspiration in London with some of the world's leading museums, galleries and theatres on our doorstep.

Whether it is the all-singing, all-dancing Crazy for You, a retrospective of the world's greatest living painter Gerhard Richter or examination of postmodernism at the Victoria & Albert museum that appeals, there is something in London to fuel everyone's imagination.

An innovative event at London's Southbank earlier in the year helped spark the public's imagination further and capture their inspirations to support the Amex Be Inspired campaign.

Taking over a space outside the National Theatre for three days as part of the Watch This Space festival, over 7,000 people shared their inspirations either by drawing onto a visual wall of inspiration or submitting via a bespoke postcard or text message.

Inspirations captured ranged from friends and loved ones to music, film, art and more. With inspirations expressed through drawing, the written word and even poetry (Go to the image gallery to view a selection of inspirations).

For every inspiration shared, American Express contributed 50p to The Prince's Trust to help young people to follow their passions and realise their potential.

If you're looking for a nugget to get you started here's campaign ambassador Kevin Spacey sharing his inspiration . "When I was 14, I was taking part in a drama workshop when the late great Jack Lemmon put his hand on my shoulder and said 'that was terrific, kid; you ought to do this professionally'. To have such a wonderful actor show faith in me was the greatest inspiration, giving me the drive to pursue my dreams of becoming an actor."

Martina Milburn, Chief Executive of The Prince's Trust said: "With youth unemployment at a record high and the jobs market uncertain, there has never been a better time to help disadvantaged young people into employment. The funds raised by this initiative will enable us to give vulnerable young people the support they need to move into the workplace. We are urging people to show their support for the campaign by sharing their inspiration today."
