Anish Kapoor goes Gangnam Style for freedom - and Ai Weiwei

Turner prize-winning artist Anish Kapoor has made a tribute Psy "Gangnam Style" video in support of Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei.

High-profile members of the art world including Mark Wallinger and Bob and Roberta Smith gathered at Kapoor's studio to create the video.

In it Kapoor and Weiwei are seen with others performing moves to South Korean pop sensation Psy's infamous dance track.

Kapoor wears a bright pink tee-shirt, handcuffs and has gaffa tape over his mouth.

“Our film aims to make a serious point about freedom of speech and freedom of expression," Kapoor said.

"It is our hope that this gesture of support for Ai Weiwei and all prisoners of conscience will be wide-ranging and will help to emphasise how important these freedoms are to us all.”

The video contains contributions from galleries around the world including MoMA, Guggenheim, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.

Kate Allen, UK Director of Amnesty International UK, said: “This is a rousing and captivating way to bring some serious fun to a serious issue, Anish Kapoor style.
