Cézanne sale breaks world record
A painting by Paul Cézanne of two peasants playing cards has sold for a record price of £158.4 million.
The sale, to the Qatari royal family, smashed the previous record for a painting set in 2006 by a Jackson Pollock work. Cézanne painted "The Card Players" as one of a series of five pictures in oil completed from 1890 to 1895. The purchase was completed last year following the death of the previous owner, Greek shipping magnate George Embiricos.
