Cracking good job, Gromit! Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park unveils sculptures in Bristol

Onlookers were treated to an unusual spectacle in Bristol today, as Nick Park – creator of Wallace & Gromit – enjoyed a ‘Grand Day Out’, along with 80 giant Gromit sculptures.

The sculptures will take up residence in key locations around the city as part of the international tourist attraction 'Gromit Unleashed', which begins on Monday.

The exhibition will last for 10 weeks and feature iconic giant Gromits, designed by an array of famous names, including Quentin Blake, Cath Kidston, and One Direction's Zayn Malik, to name but a few. Stand-out Gromit sculptures include the US animation studio Pixar’s Gromit Lightyear, as well as Classic Gromit, and the Gruffalo-inspired Grommalo.

To kick-start the exhibition, Nick Park drove a steam train loaded with sculptures into Bristol and along the harbour.

He said of the event: "Driving a steam train full of Gromits into the City was completely surreal – the character has lived in my head for so many years it’s really extraordinary seeing him so huge and re-imagined in so many different ways. I can’t wait to see them popping up all over the city."
