Art lovers with a six-figure sum to spare can now buy a Damien Hirst original on Amazon.

The website, which has just launched an Amazon Art section, is selling more than 40,000 pieces by around 4,500 artists.

Hirst's 2007 work Beautiful Magnificent Stand And Deliver Painting (With Diamonds) is up for sale for 500,000 US dollars (£323,000) and "free shipping".

The painting, which measures 36in (91.5cm) by 36in (91.5cm), is described online as being "Cubic zirconia and household gloss paint on canvas".

Other works up for sale include Claude Monet's L'Enfant A La Tasse, Portrait de Jean Monet for 1.45 million US dollars (£900,000) and American painter Norman Rockwell's Willie Gillis: Package From Home for 4.85 million US dollars (£3.1 million).

Peter Faricy, vice president of Amazon Marketplace, said: "We are excited to bring one of the largest selections of fine art direct from galleries to our customers. Amazon Art gives galleries a way to bring their passion and expertise about the artists they represent to our millions of customers.

"We're thrilled to bring the excitement and emotional connection of art to our customers."

Earlier this week, it was announced that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos had struck a deal to buy the Washington Post and other smaller newspapers for 250 million US dollars (£161 million).
