Portraits of supermodel Kate Moss by major contemporary artists from Sam Taylor-Wood to Chuck Close are to go on sale in an auction celebrating the fashion model’s influence as a “great modern muse”.

More than 50 pieces in various media will go on sale at Christie’s on 25 September with prices starting from £4,000.

Photographs will dominate the collection curated by Gert Elfering. One highlight is a new commission by Allen Jones, Kate Moss (bronze glitter) 2013, above, which is estimated to fetch £20,000-30,000.

The sale will also feature portraits by Annie Liebovitz, Mary McCartney and Mario Testino, alongside paintings and sculpture by Jones, a collage by Sir Peter Blake, a tapestry by Chuck Close, Chris Levine’s hologram She’s Light, and a sculpture of Moss as a naked angel in gold by Nick Knight.

Recognisable images on sale include Kate on couch, nude, 1992 by Mario Sorrenti (expected to fetch £50,000), Albert Watson’s 1993 portrait Kate Moss in torn veil, and David Sims’ 2005 French Vogue cover.

“There is so much you can learn from Kate – how you should always remain true to yourself, develop your own style, and emphasise your individuality,” Elfering said.
