Macabre illustrator Edward Gorey celebrated in Google doodle

Search engine Google is today highlighting the work of American writer and illustrator Edward Gorey.

The artist who died in 2000 and was known for his macabre picture stories would have been 88 today.

The creator of The Vinegar Works: Three Volumes of Moral Instruction was also a prize-winning set and costume designer.

The drew illustrations for publications including The New Yorker and The New York Times as well as for novels and playwrights from Samuel Beckett and Edward Lear to John Updike and Virginia Wolf.
