Since 2009, the Young Photographers' Alliance has been nurturing promising photographic talent, initially in New York before the charity expanded into Britain. Industry professionals have been mentoring photographers, aged between 18 and 29, giving them advice not only on technical their skills but also on the business acumen needed to build a career in the profession.

Every year, the charity showcases the best photographs to come out of the programme, with teams hosted in Bristol, Glasgow and London. This year the participants were asked to explore the theme of "home", and the winning photographs will be exhibited at the Margaret Street Gallery, central London, from this Tuesday until 17 January.

Mentors involved in the project: Sophie Batterbury, picture editor of The Independent on Sunday, Visit Britain's photography manager Jasmine Teer, leading photographer Justin Sutcliffe, Sophie Chapman-Andrews (Head Art Buyer at McCann London), photographers Daniel Bosworth and Claire Stewart, and freelance picture editors Elaine Livingstone, Liz Helman, and Debbie Ireland.
