Record £5m price for Hockney
A David Hockney painting fetched a record price of nearly $8m at auction.
The 12ft by 6ft Beverly Hills Housewife fetched $7,922,500 (£5,236,328) when it sold to an anonymous bidder at Christie's in New York on Wednesday. The previous best for a work by the Yorkshire-born artist was £2.92m for The Splash in 2006.
The work was part of the collection amassed by Betty Freeman, the philanthropist, who died in January. Beverly Hills Housewife depicts Ms Freeman on her patio. It was painted between 1966 and 1967.
