Tate spends a pile on seeds
Tate Modern has bought about eight million individually crafted porcelain sunflower seeds from the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei – its largest number of works of art. The purchase, which weighs 10 tons, follows an installation of 100 million of the seeds in the London gallery's Turbine Hall.
