A 2001 edition of Vogue featuring Kate Moss in queenly attire and an issue of Empire with Star Wars character Darth Vader on its front have made the shortlist for the greatest cover of the century.

The 10 shortlisted covers were selected by members of The Professional Publishers Association at a ceremony last night as part of the organisation's centenary celebrations.

Other favourites competing for the coveted title include the first edition of Cosmopolitan and an issue of the Radio Times featuring the return of the Daleks on Doctor Who.

Members of the public can vote on their favourite cover and the winner will be announced in November.
