Weekly arts agenda: Van Gogh, Cézanne, Monet, Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum

During the week of February 8, paintings by influential French artists Van Gogh, Cézanne and Monet will go on show at the Kunsthaus Zürich. An exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York will highlight the dreams of contemporary artists who have been invited to let their imagination go wild in the gallery's iconic "void."

Georgia O'Keeffe: Abstraction
February 6 - May 9
The Phillips Collection in Washington, USA

More than 125 paintings, drawings, watercolors and sculptures provide a largely unexplored facet of Georgia O'Keeffe's artistic career. Her experimentation with abstract art has generally remained out of the public eye; this exhibition hopes to reveal some of the artist's most radical creations and attempts to explore her role in history as one of America's first abstract artists. The exhibition will travel to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico in May and to The Whitney Museum of American Art in September 2010.

Van Gogh, Cézanne, Monet: The Bührle Collection visits the Kunsthaus Zürich

One of the world's leading private collections will be displayed in the Kunsthaus Zürich in 2010. The Foundation E.G. Bührle Collection is comprised of works by prominent French avant-garde artists, artists whose works were intrinsic in the formation of the Fauvisim and Cubisim genres. The 180 paintings and sculptures by artists such as Frans Hals, Canaletto, Ingres, Delacroix, Manet, Cézanne, Degas, Gauguin, van Gogh, Signac, Vlaminck, Braque and Picasso will be housed in the gallery's main exhibition room.

Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim Museum

The artistic dreams of more than 200 artists, architects and designers will come to life in this special 50th anniversary exhibition at the renowned Frank Lloyd Wright-designed museum in New York City. Invited participants have created a visual feast of site-specific proposals for the iconic Guggenheim "Void." Proposals from Anish Kapoor, Wangechi Mutu, Doris Salcedo, Lawrence Weiner, BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), Philippe Rahm, Snøhetta, Studio Daniel Libeskind, and Toyo Ito & Associates, Architects will line the walls of the museum and will evoke grand ideas of intervention.

There will be a strong representation of galleries hailing from Los Angeles in 2010 as the US-based city will be ARCO's "special invited guest."

Size Does Matter: curated by Shaquille O'Neal

Professional basketball player Shaquille O'Neal has set out to show the world that size does actually matter. The NBA star is curating a large-scale art exhibition that boasts microscopic, barely visible pieces and creations so big they dwarf even the likes of 2.16m tall O'Neal. Works by the likes of Franz Gertsch, Anselm Kiefer, Jeff Koons, Ron Mueck, Paul Pfeiffer, Charles Ray, Cindy Sherman, Ken Solomo, Willard Wigan and Ivan Witenstein will highlight the relationship between size, scale and perspective throughout a variety of different mediums.
