Amongst Black Panther's many brilliantly executed, intentional political statements - one may not be quite so intentional.

Unless Marvel Studios has suddenly decided to make a stake in UK politics, it seems a small production mistake has had some pretty massive consequences for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film's post-credits sequence sees T'Challa (AKA Black Panther) address with UN, to announce that his nation of Wakanda has made the decision to share its wealth of technology.

The room is, naturally, decorated with several flags of key member states; that includes the Baner Cymru (or Y Ddraig Goch), better known as the Welsh flag, shown as a separate nation to the United Kingdom.

Did the MCU have a referendum on Welsh independence? What could have triggered it? Or is the flag actually, as some have theorised, a reference to obscure Marvel hero Y Ddraig Goch, which translates literally to The Red Dragon?

Current polls suggest that, when presented with options on how Wales should be governed, an average of 6% of the Welsh population would choose independence. That certainly, however, didn't stop from movie fans celebrating Black Panther's show of Welsh independence on Twitter.
