Dave Grohl bio, 'When God Was a Rabbit' top hot titles at London Book Fair

Non-fiction books dominated the hottest deals done at the London Book Fair, reported The Bookseller on April 26. Among the top titles due out following deals done at the fair, which ran April 19-21, are a biography of musician Dave Grohl, Susan Boyle's memoir, and novels by Shutter Island author Dennis Lehane.

After analyzing the 36 deals made in London, The Bookseller reports that the hottest non-fiction deals were for This is a Call: The Life and Times of Dave Grohl, a new book by historian Max Hastings, and a memoir by singer and reality-TV star Susan Boyle. Topping fiction deals are When God was a Rabbit and two new titles by Dennis Lehane.

'This is a Call: The Life and Times of Dave Grohl'
A biography a decade in the making of Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, written by Paul Brannigan, a former editor of rock and metal magazine Kerrang! Includes exclusive interviews conducted over a ten-year period, plus interviews with figures Grohl worked with during his career. Due out in autumn 2011.

'The Woman I was Born to Be'
Britain's Got Talent runner-up and record-breaking solo artist Susan Boyle is set to publish a memoir examing her "astonishing transformation," including "the trappings of celebrity" and "the whirlwind of attention and expectation." Due out in autumn 2010.

Historian Max Hastings tackles the First World War in a book "aimed squarely at a popular audience" and focusing on the opening stages of the war, following "the transition of Europe from the glories and glamour of the Edwardian era to the tragedy of 'the war to end all wars.'" Due out in 2014, the centenary of the war's outbreak.

'When God Was a Rabbit'
A debut novel by Sarah Winman, this is a coming-of-age story in two parts, one seen through the eyes of a young girl and the second set in New York amid the events of 9/11. Called "a mesmerizing portrait of childhood, with very dark and quirky humor." Due out in 2011.

Dennis Lehane: 'Moonlight Mile,' 'The Given Day' sequel
Two new titles by the author of Shutter Island, Mystic River, and Gone, Baby, Gone. Moonlight Mile: The 6th and Final Patrick and Angie Detective Novel, which continues Lehane's series about two private investigators, will be published in the UK in spring 2011 and in the US on November 30. The second book is a sequel to Lehane's novel The Given Day, following the protagonist's younger brother as a gangster in the 1920s.

The London Book Fair is the major spring event of its kind in Europe and one of the most important English-language book fairs worldwide. The event is followed by BookExpo America, the premier book fair in North America and the largest English-language book fair in the world, set to take place May 25-27.
