Books
I have just finished reading 'Seven Men', a funny series of satirical prose sketches by Max Beerbohm, and 'McMafia', Misha Glenny's terrifying account of the globalisation of organised crime. Other books I've enjoyed lately include 'Lush Life' by Richard Price and 'Lord Jim' by Joseph Conrad.
Theatre
The most recent thing I saw in New York, was Patrick Stewart in Rupert Goold's Stalin-era production of 'Macbeth'. Michael Feast was wonderful as Macduff ,but Patrick Stewart's performance was disappointing. He seemed, oddly, to be playing the role for laughs.
Film
I've been watching DVDs: 'South Pacific', 'Spirited Away', 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and – because my daughter has a huge crush on Johnny Cash – 'Walk The Line' about 10 times. I'm looking forward to seeing 'Synechdoche, New York' and 'Revolutionary Road'.
Music
At any given time, I tend to be obsessed with three or four songs on my iPod. Currently, these are: 'She's Royal' by Tarrus Riley, a reggae cover of 'Little Green Apples' by Everton Blender, 'Baila, Baila Vicente', by Celia Cruz and 'Give It 2 Me' by Madonna.
'The Believers' is published by Fig Tree, priced £16.99
