Kindle best-sellers: Larsson hits 1 million, Hiaasen's 'Star Island' has strong debut

Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy hangs on to the top three spots on Amazon's list of best-selling Kindle e-books for the week ending August 1, according to Amazon.com. Among new entries on the week's list is Carl Hiaasen's caper-novel satire Star Island, which debuts in sixth place.

During the current chart week, Stieg Larsson officially became the highest-selling author in the history of the Kindle Store, with sales of his three posthumous novels hitting a combined one million e-books. Those novels' print editions have sold more than 27 million copies worldwide and have been translated from Swedish into more than 40 languages.

Carl Hiaasen, originally an investigative reporter, became known as an author through his series of environmental thrillers set in his home state of Florida. Hiaasen now writes caper novels about his home state in a humorous, satiric style, beginning with 2006 novel Nature Girl and continuing with the just-released Star Island. The new novel tells the story of Ann DeLusia, the "undercover stunt double" for a derailed 22-year-old pop star named Cherry Pye.
