In pictures: Book Illustration Competition entrants take on Aldous Huxley's Brave New World

Graphic designer Finn Dean has been named the winner of The Book Illustration Competition for his work based on Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.

The competition, run by The Folio Society and House of Illustration, asked applicants to submit three illustrations and a binding design for Aldous Huxley’s dystopian 1930's novel.

Dean’s winning submission beat over 500 rivals and will feature as the book jacket in the new Folio Society edition of Huxley’s renowned work, to be published in September.

Dean, 33, graduated from Bath School of Art and Design in 2004 with a degree in graphic design. He has previously had work featured in Danny Boyle’s film Trance, and is currently working with Penguin on a series of book covers.

He said: “Taking part in the competition has been a great opportunity to work on a piece of literature that was a great source of inspiration whilst at University, and recent years have shown just how visionary Huxley's book was.”

Dean is the third winner of the competition, which in previous years challenged entrants to illustrate Camus’ existentialist The Outsider and Angela Carter’s The Bloody Chamber collection.

Claire Malary, Kit Russell, Maria M Carrasco, Varvara Perekrest and Vitali Konstantinov were named runners-up, and each received a cash prize of £500.
