Homework for Grown-Ups, By E Foley and B Coates

Anyone anticipating a racy novel of sexual shenanigans should know the sub-title: "Everything you learnt at school and promptly forgot."

The young women hiding behind the initials are relentlessly jolly-hockey-sticks on 10 subjects from maths ("Keep at it and you will learn to love long division") to PE, though it is debatable whether memorising six verses of Auld Lang Syne will "ease situations of stress".

Moreover, their recipe for Victoria sandwich filled with strawberry jam and cream would earn a telling-off in Home Economics: "Rasp-berry jam alone was sufficient for Queen Victoria!"
