A well adjusted Swedish policeman? Surely some mistake, but Camilla Läckberg's creation, Detective Patrik Hedstrom, is just that – as well as being a decent cook and attentive partner to his pregnant girlfriend, Erica.
In the fishing port of Fjallbäcka, a small community is thrown into panic when the body of a young German tourist is found in the cleft of a cliff. Patrik's suspicions fall on the Hults, a feuding clan of old-style Lutheran zealots.
Their motives are numerous, but Läckberg, an entertaining storyteller (whose latest book is translated by Steven T Murray) keeps us guessing. The novel's domestic relief is provided by Erica and Patrik's extended family – a freeloading bunch.Reuse content
