Thomas the Tank Engine Family Fun Day

Children can come and meet the Fat Controller, bounce on a 25ft Thomas bouncy castle, and enjoy a range of entertainment, including puppet shows and live music today and 21 August (left). They also get a free fun-box, with stickers, pencils and other goodies, if they present a valid ticket and a fun-box voucher (available from any Underground station).

Last Summer of the Century Celebration

St Katherine's Dock, London E1 (0171-488 0555) today, 12noon, guided tours 1pm and 3pm, free

Every Saturday until 21 August there is free music and entertainment at this historic dock. There will also be guided walks around the area, with a docker and his wife.

Hayes Canal Festival

Weekend event which includes a steam-boat rally, story-telling, and canal arts and crafts, as well as strolling troubadors.

Discovery Day

Find out what it's like to be an officer of the law or have a look inside a fire engine or an ambulance at this annual behind-the-scenes event, which this year has a 999 theme. In Cathedral Square there will be a host of activities especially for children (12noon to 4pm) including the chance to learn how to spin plates and juggle.

Teddy Bears' Picnic

Children and their teddies are invited to a picnic at this medieval castle (right). Entertainment will be provided by Blossom the clown and her teddy bear puppet, who will put on a show of circus skills, as well as inviting young visitors to join in. NS
