Superheroes Art Workshops

Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood, Cambridge Heath Rd, E2 (0181-980 2415) today, 11am, 12noon, 2pm and 3pm, free

The children's museum's latest exhibition celebrates 60 years of Batman, so from now until February its weekend events will focus on the caped crusader. Workshops will be held every Saturday - with places allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Today's involve children drawing or painting their favourite superheroes.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party & Alice in Wonderland

This children's cinema club for five to 11 year-olds offers free activities before its film screening on the last Saturday of every month. There's no actual tea drinking, but plenty of activities before today's 11am showing; of a puppet and live-action version of Lewis Carroll's classic tale.

LSO Discovery Family Concert

This concert aimed at seven to 12 year olds features orchestral music from Eastern Europe and offers children a chance to join in.

Fire in the Fields

A giant illuminated sculpture made from 1,000 wooden pallets will be burnt at this event, which also features projected animation and performers. The gates open at 5pm. Visitors are advised to wrap up warm and bring a torch.

Christmas Fantasy

Clearwell Caves and Ancient Iron Mines, Coleford, Glos (01594 832535) today and then daily until Christmas Eve, 10am-5pm, entry pounds 4 (includes gift for under-12s)

Visitors to this working mining museum travel 100ft underground where they can explore nine caverns that have been transformed into a magical world of fantasy and light: a real grotto as opposed to one made of papier mache! This year's theme is teddy bears.

Avoncroft Craft Show

Do your Christmas shopping in an historic setting. As well as more than 35 craft stalls selling everything from salt dough to ceramics, there will be re-enactments of Tudor life plus spinning and wood-turning demonstrations. At 4pm on Sunday there will also be a carol service in the Victorian Mission Church. NS
