Before he heads off for his new job directing the Berlin Philharmonic, Sir Simon Rattle is certainly ensuring that he keeps his high profile here in Britain. Fresh from his success at the Edinburgh Festival, he heads south of the border for a couple of Proms concerts with one of the other great world orchestras, the Vienna Philharmonic. On Monday, they present an intriguing programme of Beethoven (the Symphony No 6, "Pastoral") with a first half made up of Ravel (it will be interesting to see how the Vienna orchestra take to this very un-Germanic music). The following night they

are on home ground with Mahler's mighty "Resurrection" Symphony, with soloists Juliane Banse and Birgit Remmert and the CBSO Chorus. Gyorgy
