The incompleteness of Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony was due
not to death but deliberate neglect.
This sense of abandonment has spun mysteries about the piece, left aptly hanging in this interpretation.
Was it due to problems posed by the "black key" of B minor? Or the strangely static nature of the two completed movements, which may have lulled the composer into a creative impasse?
Whatever the reason, it's left us with one of classical music's most intriguing works, whose murmurous theme carries huge reserves of wistful regret. It's accompanied here by three works showcasing violin.
