You'd think that after seven years I'd be able to capture the success of Progress in a sentence or two, but I'm struggling. The problem isn't finding good things to say, but which highlights to leave out. Many clubs boast about their "unique" atmosphere but Progress's reputation has been forged over seven years by energised punters. In the fickle realms of clubbing, that's a long time.

A trip to Progress offers a club promoter who is a skirt-wearing social worker, a fruit and veg stall, a door picker with vampire teeth, impromptu games of Stars in their Eyes and one of the country's best club nights.

There's not much chance of getting into the VIP room unless you really are famous, but the real action takes place on the dance-floor, where every dedicated Hedonist in the Midlands works up a sweat. Tall Paul, Boy George, Lisa Loud and residents Pete and Russell play uplifting tunes with a hard edge. Don't miss!
