More and more Britons, we learn from a report published this week, are watching films on the small screen. But, to buck the trend, a short season offers the chance to see movies in all their 70mm glory on the biggest screen in Britain. At the Odeon Marble Arch for three weeks from next Friday, they include rarely seen gems like Ken Russell's flamboyant sci-fi pic Altered States, Lawrence Kasdan's comedy western Silverado with Kevin Kline (watch out, too, for an early appearance by hearthrob-in-waiting Kevin Costner) and Philip Kaufman's intriguing tribute to the Apollo astronauts The Right Stuff (pictured right).
We have five pairs of tickets to each of the 10 films in the season. To apply, name (1) the pilot played by Sam Shepard in The Right Stuff, (2) the British comedy actor who plays a cameo in Silverado, (3) the star of Altered States. Answers, by 5 June to: 70mm competition, Listings, The Independent, 40 City Rd, London EC1Y 2DB. Please include a daytime phone number and your three preferred films. The full programme is: Aliens, Altered States, Blue Thunder, Brainstorm, Die Hard, Edward Scissorhands, Heaven's Gate, The Right Stuff, Silverado and Willow.
