Dear Virginia,

At the moment we live in the city, but my husband is very keen to move to the country. It would be quite possible to work from home as we both freelance in our individual careers. However, having lived in town all my life, I can't bear the idea of moving; my husband says that urban life, with the violence and danger, is really getting him down. We have no children or health problems and we have a lovely flat with a big garden.

I am worried that I would miss my friends, quite a sophisticated townie bunch, not to mention the ethnic mix that is part of living in the city. My husband says he wants peace and quiet and wide open spaces. This dispute is starting to threaten our marriage, since we cannot afford two homes. What do readers think?

Yours sincerely, Juliet
