ETCETERA / Competition: Details No 205

IN WHICH painting by which painter can you find this head and shoulder?

Last week's detail came from one of Henricus Antonius Van Meegeren's celebrated Vermeer forgeries, Christ and the Adultress (1942). Passed off as an example of early (and thus unknown) Vermeer, this once belonged to Hermann Goering, and is now in the Rijkdienst Beelende Kunst, The Hague.

The first three correct entries drawn were from: B S Rosser, of Mumbles, West Glamorgan; Edward Morris, of Oxton, Birkenhead; and Mr & Mrs J Chesters, of Northophall, Clwyd. Each will receive a bottle of champagne, as will the winners of this week's competition.

Answers, on a postcard please, to DETAILS 205, The Independent on Sunday, 40 City Road, London EC88 1HP.
