There are clothes with inbuilt drama that comes from their associations with the past. This winter, the much-vaunted 'dandy-look' has emerged more as a hybrid rather than the pure strain - with a bit of equestrian bias here; a little Weimar severity there. Dressing day-for-night, it's difficult to beat the effect of strictly tailored black against a romantic white shirt worn with a long black veil.
