I WAS very interested in Brian Simpson's article ('Explaining the strange sensation of getting nowhere very fast,' 10 November) concerning the feeling of reverse motion when stepping on a stationary escalator.
Questioning friends indicates that not everyone is susceptible. Also, you may wish to know that the only way to remove the sensation is to step on the join between floor and escalator. I don't think this helps to explain the phenomenon, however, only complicate the problem.
