FILM THEATRE EXHIBITIONS GIGS CLASSICAL MUSIC/DANCE

GOING OUT - CRITICS' CHOICE
Some repertory treats that you shouldn't miss this week: Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused (Glasgow Film Theatre, this afternoon only; Birmingham Electric Cinema tonight and tomorrow), an airheaded comedy of drugs and parties and more drugs; Atom Egoyan's The Adjuster (also Glasgow, on Thursday), a tricky puzzle to get you in the mood for his brilliant new film Exotica (which opens in May); and Claude Chabrol's Les Biches (Manchester Cornerhouse, Mon/Tues), wherein Chabrol turns mnage trois conventions inside out with an icy (but ice-cool) investigation of obsession and eroticism (you won't see Stephane Audran any better than she is here).

Of the new releases, Frank Darabont's immensely detailed and pleasingly humane prison drama The Shawshank Redemption (above, with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, both superb) is at the Odeon Leicester Square. It goes nationwide from next month. And Ang Lee's sweetly diverting Eat Drink Man Woman crops up in rep across the country.
