Thor in a Nord Cave: deleated scene from Avengers: Age of Ultron (Disney/Marvel)

When Joss Whedon finished filming Avengers: Age of Ultron there was one major problem: it was way too long. Whedon had jam packed hundreds of ideas into it, the run time of the initial cut going over the three hour mark.

Marvel decided it needed to be cut down and the final cinematic edition had a run time of just two hours 21 minutes.

This, however, lead to some major problems with the actual storytelling, and the film was criticised for not developing some main points, particularly Thor’s story in which the Asgardian visits an underground pool to find out how to deafeat Ultron.

It turns out this scene was supposed to be a lot longer, but with Whedon not wanting to cut down on scene’s set in Hawkeye’s home, it was cut down dramaticaly. Now the movie is out on DVD Marvel have decided to release the deleted scene online. Watch below.

In the scene, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Dr. Selvig (Stellen Skarsgard) are in a Norn Cave hoping to find out how to defeat Ultron. Thor drinks something out of a bottle, jumps in, and is possessed by the Norn Gods. Through him they communicate with Selvig, giving some details in regards the Infinity Stones and Ultron.

Avengers: Infinity War will centre on these six stones, and will see Thanos presumably take on the Avengers to get back the mind stone.

Avengers: Indfinty Wars - Part 1 arrives in cinemas 4 May 2018.
