Monday 20 September 2010
The upcoming sci-fi drama from the team of JJ Abrams (
Star Trek) and Steven Spielberg,
Super 8, has signed on its first two actors.
According to New York magazine's Vulture blog, 12-year-old Elle Fanning ( The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), the sister of Dakota, has been cast.
A May casting notice for the role sought "female 13-14. A natural beauty, strong and confident, but with an underlying sadness."
Elle Fanning will also star in The Nutcracker in 3D to be released November and starring John Turturro and Nathan Lane and directed by Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky.
Also starring is Kyle Chandler, who plays Coach Taylor in the critically acclaimed football drama, Friday Night Lights, on US television.
The secretive project, due to be released next summer 2011, centers on three siblings who discover footage of an alien in some Super 8 footage they shot.
According to the website, Abrams is collaborating with Jonah Nolan - brother of Christopher Nolan, the director of Inception - on a new hour-long crime thriller for US television called Person of Interest. Nolan, who co-wrote Dark Knight, will pen the pilot script.
Abrams has produced Lost, Fringe and more programs for TV, including a recently sold Alcatraz prison drama.
