The first teaser trailer for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, an adaptation of the classic 1974 John le Carré bestseller, was released on June 30, and features Oscar winner Colin Firth and Gary Oldman.
Set during the Cold War, the footage features cryptic lines of dialogue and a series of evocative images revealing the suspenseful story of the search for a double agent planted among British Intelligence Services.
Former Agent George Smiley, played by Oldman, is pulled out of retirement to uncover the Soviet spy among the spies in M16's operations.
Swedish director Tomas Alfredson ( Let the Right One In) helms this classic tale of international espionage, which costars John Hurt ( Harry Potter), Tom Hardy ( Inception) and Mark Strong ( Sherlock Holmes).
The book's title stands for code words and it is the first of the Karla Trilogy, followed by The Honourable Schoolboy and Smiley's People. The 1979 television mini-series starred Alec Guinness as the retired spy.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy opens in the UK and Ireland on September 16, Australia on October 27, Germany November 10 and North America on November 18, with more markets to follow.
