The first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield was released July 20, revealing the look of this action hero tale about the origins of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man.
In this reboot, Garfield replaces Tobey Maguire, who starred in the last three Spider-Man films. It opens on Spider-Man's childhood, morphing into Parker's teen years.
Directed by Marc Webb, who helmed the indie hit (500) Days of Summer, the adventure co-stars Emma Stone ( The Easy A), Zooey Deschanel ( Almost Famous, (500) Days of Summer) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt ( Inception, (500) Days of Summer).
After Stone, who plays girlfriend Gwen Stacy, warns Parker not to touch anything in a lab where she works, he can't help himself. The transformation begins and a voiceover asks: "Do you know what you really are?"
Shots from the point-of-view of Spider-Man climbing buildings, leaping across rooftops and scaling the walls of skyscrapers offer glimpses of his shadows, until the last shot, when he springs at the camera.
"We all have secrets," Spider-Man says. "The ones we keep - and the ones that are kept from us."
The action thriller also features Rhys Ifans ( Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1) as The Lizard, Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Spider-Man's aunt and uncle, and Irfan Khan ( Slumdog Millionaire) as Proto-Goblin.
The Amazing Spider-Man hits cinemas worldwide July 3, 2012.
