Bafta has announced the shortlist of five actors nominated for the Orange Wednesdays Rising Star award, including four from the UK.

Hackney-born Adam Deacon, known for his roles in gritty street dramas Kidulthood and its sequel Adulthood, is joined by the IT Crowd's Chris O'Dowd, My Week With Marilyn's Eddie Redmayne, and the star of Steven Spielberg's recently released War Horse Tom Hiddleston in representing the British Isles in the prestigious category.

Australian heart throb Chris Hemsworth, who played the title role in Kenneth Brannagh's adaptation of Marvel comic Thor completes the nominations for the award previously won by the likes of Kristen Stewart and Tom Hardy.

The five were chosen by the public from a longlist of eight, selected by a jury of industry heavyweights including actors Simon Pegg and Sienna Miller, Sam Mendes' producing partner Pippa Harris and four-time Harry Potter director David Yates.

The shortlist will now be voted on by members of the public before the winners are announced at the awards ceremony on 12 February.
