Before Deadpool 2 there will be Deadpool 1.5

Ryan Reynolds promises plenty more material for the film's home entertainment release

People love Deadpool. That's the lesson duly learnt over the past week, as the film smashed records (and all expectations) with its current gross of $284M; naturally driving conversation of where the Merc with a Mouth may spring to next.

Deadpool 2 is certainly greenlit and slowly rolling towards production, yet star Ryan Reynolds teased the idea new Deadpool may be coming sooner than you may think: with a home entertainment release so packed full of new footage and treats, he's essentially christened it Deadpool 1.5.

"I can actually tell you right now there will be," Reynolds told BBC Radio 1. "There's too much footage - too much stuff that we love, and we had to make choices, and that's just the nature of the beast. But yeah, we have enough for a few sequels, probably!"

However, Reynolds' enthusiastic proclamations may not sit right with previous statements made by the film's own director, Tim Miller. "I don’t wanna be all Joss Whedon on you, but no there’s not [a director’s cut]…" he stated at a recent IMAX screening of the film (via Collider). "There are some deleted scenes that have some extra stuff, but I’m pretty happy with this cut. I like it."

Conversely, co-star T.J. Miller had also previously referred to a Director's Cut of the film when attending a fan event, promising attendees they would be in store for something "even more raw". So, though a Director's Cut may not yet exist of the film, it does seem incredibly unlikely Fox won't, at the very least, push for a ton of new footage for the DVD and Blu-Ray release, especially considering the shoot was notoriously improv-heavy.

Indeed, Tim Miller once hinted at a bar scene which was considered "too vulgar for even the R-rated Deadpool"; is this the kind of material that could draw audiences back to the film once its released on home entertainment?
