Deadpool will have multiple cameos including Stan Lee and X-Men: film won't contain excessive amounts of gore

Deadpool - the highly anticipated, Ryan Reynolds starring superhero flick - has been hyped to the high heavens by fans.

Why, when there are multiple superhero films coming out? There are multiple reasons: the character's fourth-wall-breaking humour, the fact he’s a crazy red ninja, and he’s connected to the highly successful X-Men universe.

What really makes Deadpool stand-out, though, is the R-rating. However, just because they can use gore and other adult themes that doesn’t mean the filmmakers are going blood-crazy.

"Ironically there's not as much as there could be, it's all portrayed pretty realistically," make-up designer Bill Corso told Digital Spy. "Deadpool does some really graphic stuff to people, but it's all quick and doesn't linger on it.”

He also hinted at the extent to which the film will reference the other X-Men films: "We may sneak in references to a couple of other mutants and show glimpses of other mutants. We have a list of all the mutants Fox has access to. We pulled a couple and are sneaking them in.”

Colossus and Blackbird have been confirmed to appear in the film, whereas Cable - one of Deadpool's closest allies - will definitely not, according to screenwriter Rhett Reese.

He went on to discuss whether the Marvel hero will appear in Fox’s other projects: "Probably, if I had to guess, we would do a standalone sequel before we entered the actual ensemble movies.”

It was also confirmed that Stan Lee will make a cameo in the film, having not featured in Fantastic Four earlier this year: “Stan Lee is in the movie in a way you've never seen him before,” said writer Paul Wernick.

Deadpool reaches UK cinemas 4 February 2016 while the US will have to wait until 12 February.
