The first trailer for Listen Up Philip director Alex Ross Perry's new film Queen of Earth is out, seeing him collaborate with Mad Men actress Elizabeth Moss once more.

While Listen Up Philip largely focused on the egotism and self-aggrandisement of male authors, Perry describes his next film as an 'exploration of broken women'.

Moss and Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) play Catherine and Virginia, two best friends who retreat to Virginia's lake house after Catherine's father dies and she subsequently gets dumped by her boyfriend.

The country sojourn doesn't prove to be restorative however, with cracks in their friendship leading Catherine "into a downward spiral of delusion and madness".

The trailer has a wonderfully throwback feel to it, with ornate film titles being layered over scenes and narration including lines like "Katherine Waterston in a role you'll never forget, and Elizabeth Moss as you've never seen her before".

The posters for the film are similarly old school, featuring sketches of Moss' tear-soaked face.

Queen of Earth opens in US cinema on August 25, with no UK release date as yet announced.
