When Furious 7 reached cinemas, it broke numerous box-office records, making over $1.5 billion worldwide, opening with a $147.1 million weekend in the United States and $245.9 million over a single week in China.

Unsurprisingly, the eighth film in the Fast and Furious franchise — The Fate of the Furious — is predicted to gross millions, but slightly less than its predecessor.

Deadline estimate, as of Sunday morning, a $100.1 million weekend for the Vin Diesel-led blockbuster in the US — the bottom end of Universal’s estimates.

However, there will likely still be champaign popping: according to some analysts, Fate of the Furious could top Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($528.9 million) to become the top global opening of all-time. Variety currently estimates a $534 million opening. Failing to beat Episode VII, the film will likely top Jurassic World‘s $525.5M.

Overall, experts suggest Fast 8 should take around $1.2 - $1.3 billion worldwide, with an estimated North America gross of $250 million.

With the street-racer topping the US box office, second place is The Boss Baby, followed by Beauty and the Beast and Smurfs: The Lost Village.
