British actor Callum Keith Rennie will join the team in the role of Anastasia Steele’s stepfather Ray after recently acting with Helena Bonham Carter in adventure film The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet.

Other film credits include the forthcoming indie drama Ride with Helen Hunt and television series The Killing and The Firm.

The 53-year-old is currently living in Vancouver, where the film is being shot.

The film, based on the best-selling Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, follows the sexually-charged relationship between billionaire fetishist Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, the young literature student infatuated by his charisma.

Anastasia considers her first stepfather Ray as her "real" father, above her mother Carla’s current husband Bob, played by Dylan Neal.

Recent castings announcements in the last week have included "Hot Right Now" singer Rita Ora in the role of Christian’s sister, Marcia Gay Harden as the playboy’s mother and Jennifer Ehle as Carla.

Sam Taylor Johnson is directing the film, with Luke Grimes, Max Martini, Victor Rasuk and Eloise Mumford also appearing on the cast list.

The film is due for release on Valentine’s Day weekend in 2015 after production was delayed when original Christian Grey actor Charlie Hunnam left due to family and scheduling reasons.

The E L James trilogy of erotic novels has sold over 70 million copies globally and is one of the fastest-selling book series in history. Directors competed for the film rights, with actor Mark Wahlberg revealing last month that he wanted to produce and cast Brad Pitt in the lead.
