Fourth Jurassic Park film to be called Jurassic World
Universal Pictures has announced the new film will be called Jurassic World
Universal Pictures has announced that Jurassic Park IV has been renamed Jurassic World and will open in cinemas on 12 June 2015.
The film comes 14 years after the last instalment, Jurassic Park III, and 22 years after the original in 1993.
Steven Spielberg, who produced and directed the first two films, will not direct the fourth instalment.
Colin Trevorrow, whose previous credits include Safety Not Guaranteed, will direct the screenplay he co-wrote with Derek Connolly.
Plot details have not been announced, although it has been confirmed that the film will take place on Isla Nublar, the island where the original Jurassic Park was set.
Original stars Richard Attenborough and Jeff Goldblum are rumoured to return to their parts as John Hammond and Dr Ian Malcolm, although nothing has been confirmed by Universal.
Filming for Jurassic World was scheduled to begin in July 2013, but was postponed to allow Trevorrow and Connolly to work on an original draft by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
It was also delayed to give Spielberg, who is an executive producer, enough time to give notes on the revised script, according to Variety.
The film’s new 2015 release comes in a competitive year for blockbusters, with the new Batman-Superman film, the next instalment of the Star Wars franchise and Avengers: Age of Ultron all due for release.
