Disney's unstoppable Frozen has becoming the highest-grossing animated film ever, beating Toy Story 3, The Lion King and more.

The musical animation has taken $1.072 billion (£644 million) at the box office worldwide, eclipsing the Toy Story sequel's total of $1.063 billion.

Frozen dominated cinemas when it opened in November 2013, spurred on by a widely-talked about soundtrack, shooting to the top of the charts when it arrived in the UK a month later and staying at the summit on both sides of the Atlantic right through to February 2014.

The Lion King is the third highest-grossing movie ever, with Despicable Me 2 in fourth, Finding Nemo in fifth and Shrek and Ice Age sequels also featuring in the top ten.

Frozen tells the story of a princess on a mission to find her estranged sister, whose magical powers have kept the kingdom in perpetual winter.

Its voice cast features Kristen Bell, Jonathon Goff and Idina Menzel, who was infamously re-christened "Adela Dazeem" by John Travolta at the Oscars, where the film won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for 'Let It Go').
