She may have her fair share of nude scenes in Game of Thrones, but Emilia Clarke has revealed that the idea of getting her kit off made her turn down the lead role in Fifty Shades of Grey.

The English actress stars as mother of dragons Daenerys Targaryen in the world's most pirated TV series but was concerned about being typecast if she took another risqué part.

"I really wanted to work with [director] Sam Taylor-Johnson because she's f**king amazing," Clarke told Marie Claire. "But there is a huge amount of nudity in the film.

"I'll never say 'I'm never doing nudity' because I've already done it, but I thought I might get stuck in a pigeonhole that I would have struggled to get out of."

Taylor-Johnson has since quit as director for the remaining two movies in the Fifty Shades franchise, which is based on EL James' bestselling erotic novel series.

The first film, starring Jamie Dornan as BDSM-loving billionaire Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as infatuated student Anastasia Steele, was slammed by critics but a huge box office success.

Despite this, Clarke, who also rejected the role of Edward Snowden's girlfriend in Oliver Stone's Snowden, insists she has "no regrets" about passing up a trip to the Red Room.

The 28-year-old is preparing to start shooting romance Me Before You after filming wrapped on Terminator Genisys.
