Hands Of Stone - Official US Trailer

36 years after delivering one of the greatest performances in cinema's history, Raging Bull actor Robert De Niro is returning to the boxing ring - this time as a master trainer.

A brand new trailer for Hand of Stone has been released and it shows that all hope is not lost for the world's one-time greatest actor following a string of terrible duds (including - but not exclusive to - Dirty Grandpa and that other boxing film Grudge Match).

The 72-year-old actor here stars as Ray Arcel, a trainer who worked with 18 world fighting champions throughout an illustrious career.

This particular biopic - written and directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz - focuses on the legend's time working with the Panamanian boxer Roberto Durán, long considered one of the sport's greatest talents.

Durán is played by Édgar Ramirez who will next be seen in adaptation The Girl on the Train alongside Emily Blunt and Justin Theroux.

Hand of Stone also stars Ellen Barkin and John Turturro who is currently impressing US critics with his performance in HBO series The Night Of.

De Niro's performance as Jake La Motta in Martin Scorsese's seminal 1980 film Raging Bull is regarded to be one of the actor's greatest. He won a Best Actor Oscar for the role despite the film getting controversially pipped to the post by Robert Redford weepie Ordinary People.

Produced by the Weinstein Company, Hand of Stone will be released in the States on 26 August; a UK date is yet to be announced.
